Every year at the end of summer, the great technicians take the opportunity to update their product range and show consumers their latest news. Microsoft did just that this Tuesday at a small event in New York where it completely refurbished all the computers and tablets in the Surface line.
Microsoft updates Surface range
The Professional Surface Pro 6 now integrates an eighth-generation Intel processor, 8GB of RAM and a configurable 128GB SSD, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, as well as 13 and a half hours of autonomous runtime. According to Microsoft, it’s 67 percent faster than the Surface Pro 5. In addition, it has reduced the price of the base model from $ 999 to $ 899.
The Surface 2 laptop has been updated along the same lines, with updated internal components and colors. The processor is now 8th generation, the base model has 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB and the price is the same: $999.
It is worth noting that in so many updates, Microsoft has forgotten about the ports: tablets and laptops still do not have USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, which they already include in almost all competitors’ high-end devices. They are high-speed and versatile connections that have become the industry standard, especially in the professional public sector that all these products are aimed at.
The Surface Studio 2, a desktop computer that competes directly with the high-end iMac, has also received internal component updates. The new device is equipped with an 8th generation processor and high-end graphics card Nvidia GTX 1070. It offers a 50% performance boost in high-load tasks such as video rendering. Its large LCD panel is now 38 percent brighter and its image contrast ratio is 22 percent higher. The base model starts at $3,499 and can be configured with up to 2TB of SSD storage for the device.
One small gap in the software is that Microsoft announced the immediate availability of the second major annual update to Windows 10, which includes a dark theme for the file browser, syncing the clipboard between devices in the cloud and a new app phone that lets you interact with all the notifications, apps and photos of the user’s smartphone in real time.
The only new product shown at the Microsoft event was the first headset in the Surface line, which features smart noise cancellation through physical controls around the pad and the ability to interact with voice assistant Cortana. Because of their size, they are high-end headphones designed for use at home or in the office, focused on controlling user distractions while working. Interestingly, the Surface Headphones are charged via USB-C connection, missing all the devices offered.
