Kim Kardashian and Kanye West finally divorce, rapper pays $200,000 a month in alimony
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are finally divorcing, it has been confirmed. The split is less than two years old and the two parties have reached an agreement on custody and property issues.
According to People and TMZ, both stars will have “equal access” to their four children: North, 9, Saint, who turns 7 next month, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3. Kardashian and West, who legally changed his name to Ye, have a prenuptial agreement so their assets will be intact. There was a prenuptial agreement, so assets were divided accordingly. Neither party will receive spousal support; however, Ye must pay his ex-wife $200,000 per month in child support. He will also be responsible for half of the children’s education and security costs.
Ye has publicly slammed Kardashian’s parenting, such as her not sending the children to his now-closed Donda Academy. The settlement agreement allegedly stipulates that both Ye and the reality TV star agree to participate in mediation if disagreements over the children arise. If one of them fails to show up, the other can make the decision.
Kardashian and Ye’s divorce has been delayed, but not for lack of effort on her part. The rapper went through several lawyers and cancelled the testimony. After Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, he tried to get her back but to no avail. Kardashian asked the court to declare her legally single – which the Grammy winner opposed – as they were processing the divorce settlement. The Kardashian star claimed that Ye had caused “emotional distress” by spreading “misinformation on social media about our private family matters and co-parenting”. The judge granted her request nine months ago.
Kardashian and Ye began dating in 2012 and married in 2014. They weathered many storms throughout their relationship, such as Kardashian’s robbery in Paris and the rapper’s hospitalisation in 2016. Their marriage culminated during his failed presidential bid in 2020, when he revealed deeply personal information about their family. In a rare statement, Kardashian asked for “compassion” when talking about his bipolar disorder. Seven months later, she filed for divorce.
In recent months, Kardashian and Ye have been spotted at parenting events together; however, it is unclear how friendly the two are amidst the rapper’s headline-grabbing behaviour. Ye had been dropped by numerous companies, including Adidas, after making anti-Semitic comments. The rapper recently had dinner with former President Donald Trump and his new friend, white nationalist Nick Fuentes. He has recruited alternative right-wing figure Milo Yiannopoulos to helm the 2024 presidential campaign.
